Environment-safe G-Oil and Green Earth Team Gunnar have formed a new ‘green party’ with Bayshore Recycling of Keasbey, New Jersey and Indiana-based Genoa Racing for the next American Le Mans Series race at Mid-Ohio on August 6-7, extending the relationship which enjoyed a successful try-out at last weekend’s Lime Rock, Connecticut ALMS round.
For Lime Rock, GETG boss Kevin Jeannette hired the Tom Knapp-run Genoa outfit and its Oreca FLM09 Le Mans Prototype Challenge car to give team regular Christian Zugel a seat when he found himself available to drive at the last minute. Christian and his co-driver, GT veteran Tom Sedivy, finished fourth in a well judged race held in torrid heat at the classic New England circuit. The number 36 Genoa machine appeared in the same vivid green G-Oil 'flora and fauna' color scheme run by GETG since the start of the season.
At Mid-Ohio, Zugel will co-drive the Genoa LMPC with Frankie Montecalvo, the young gun who partners GETG lead driver Gunnar Jeannette in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Frankie also drives for Team Gunnar in the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites series, taking his debut win at Miller Motorsports Park earlier this month. Bayshore Recycling will co-sponsor the 36 car with G-Oil and the Zais Group, duplicating the sponsor line-up on the number 99 GETG entry.
The brightly liveried G-Oil number 99 car driven by Christian's teammates Gunnar Jeannette and Elton Julian is on a hot streak, having finished on the podium in every race so far this season and claiming its second victory of 2010 with a stunning run from last to first place at Lime Rock. That result elevated the Florida-based GETG team and Gunnar Jeannette to just four points behind the leaders in both the team and driver standings, and into the top spot in the IMSA Cup rankings.
“We’re thrilled to have Frankie join our new sister team alongside Christian,” Jeannette said. “Genoa Racing always does a fantastic job and we’re hoping to see them on the podium at Mid-Ohio with Gunnar and Elton.”
